2009/2010

In the summer of 2009 Dlr Leisure Services Meadowbrook in partnership with Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Co. Co. ran the dlr Leisure Community Basketball program with great success in witch 73 young people participated between the age of 6 years to 14 years. Many of the children gained lots of new skills in the game as well as making new friends and gaining the self-confidence to play with their school team or a club. The program is due to bounce back again in April 2010. Hope to see you there!

From September to December Dlr Leisure Services Loughlinstown in partnership with Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Co. Co. established dlr Leisure Community Badminton. Twelve children aged 6-14yrs participated and many of them had not played badminton at any level before. The program was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and opted to join the Community Badminton, as there are not many local clubs for children to play in. The program is restarting in January 2010.

A six-week Martial Arts program took place in Furryhill Community Centre (Sandyford) for 18 children between November & December. The children were aged between 6 years to 14 years and all live in the estate. Each child learned a new skill, discipline and increased their self-esteem.

Dlr Leisure Services Monkstown in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Co. Co. Sports Development Office is currently running a 6-aside Late Night Soccer League. The league takes place on a Friday night from 7:30-9:30pm over 10 weeks. The aim of the League is to give a group of friends the opportunity to play together and stay occupied on a Friday night. So far the league has been a success with sixty to seventy 15-18 year old boys attending each night for the first 3 weeks.

From October 2009 to March 2010 snorkelling has been taking place in the swimming pool at dlr Leisure Services Monkstown. The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Development Office in partnership with dlr Leisure Services runs the programme. The programme is aimed at boys and girls 12+ years from the different youth groups within the county. The instructors from the Trident Sub-Aqua Club provide the tuition during the programme.
